So I am a little late in updating this, but there are some exciting beer events pending. First, Natty Greene’s, a famous Greensboro brewer/brewpub, is getting ready to open in Raleigh. While they expect to open earlier, their grand opening is scheduled for March 15. I’m not much of a crowd person, so I plan on stalking them until they open and getting in early. Look for great beers at this new addition to Glenwood South. My biggest concern is they are not in a building that has had a bunch of luck. I am hoping the new trend toward beer appreciation will keep this place going. With that said, don’t forget your local brewpubs, and keep supporting Boylan Bridge and local breweries.
Also, as reported in a comment below, check out the Tri Beer Meetup group for information about a lot of local beer events. They have some really good events planned and a great calendar of upcoming events (far better than mine). Just search Tri Beer Meetup in google.
Finally, the biggest events coming up in the area are the World Beer Fest on April 24, 2010, and Beer, Bourbon, and Barbecue the weekend of August 6-7, 2010. Personally, I am skipping Beerfest because I have been so much, but I am attending the Saturday VIP session of Beer, Bourbon and Barbecue. Bourbon is one of my other favorite drinks, and who can say no to barbecue? Oh, and for both of these events, let me strongly recommend a taxi or designated driver. Let me also recommend not walking from the Beerfest to your friend’s house, even if it is only two miles and a half miles or so. YOU WILL GET DEHYDRATED!
The Tri-Beer Meet Up group lists lots of events around the Triangle if you want t join. The monthly tastings at The Saucer are worth joining for if you are going for a plate…you get to add 6-9 beers in one night for around $20 plus there is free food!
Thanks for the tips on Tri-Beer Meetup. I definitely want to try some of their events, but unfortunately, the Saucer deals violate my rules page – I agreed to drink a full beer for it to count! Of course, I have occasionally violated this before I started the blog – I have had an Irish Car Bomb, and perhaps a flight or two, but I am trying to stick to my rules now.
